Youth Boat Safe
Calling all Jr. Captains! It is time to master your boating skills! At Buckeye, we know from experience that kids can be great captains and safe boating advocates if given the proper training. We also know that sometimes it is easier for kids and parents if the teaching is left upto an outside source. If all this sounds very familiar, Kidz or Teenz Boat Safe is the course for you!
Prerequisites:
no prior knowledge or experience necessary
Kidz Boat Safe
: open to kids ages 8-12
Teenz Boat Safe
: open to youth ages 13-16
comfort in a boat and around water is preferred
children with identified reading or learning disorders welcome. Please make us aware so we can make appropriate arrangements
Kidz & Teenz Day Includes:
Boating Safety (4 hours)
Half of the day will consist of making everyone legal. A PCOC certified instructor will teach kids the rules of the water in a funand kid-friendly manner. Through games, pictures and role play, kids learn all about boating safety, giving them all the tools to pass their Pleasure Craft Operators exam before lunch.
Buffet lunch (45 mins.)
A fun lunch just for kids is included. This health-conscious meal consists of lots of yummy kid-friendly menu items and treats. Be sure to make us aware of any allergies at the time of registration.
Kidz Day Includes:
Safety on the Water
(1.5 hours)
This station is dedicated to captaining. Kids will get behind the wheel and receive professional instruction on how to safely operate a vessel. The boat used will fall under the appropriate size and horsepower restrictions for children of this age.
What to do if...
(1.5 hours)
The second session includes shore activities that answer the question"what to do if?" With teacher supervision, children will perform a man overboard drill and practice life-saving exercises on land such as the HELP position, how to put on their life jackets in the water and othervaluable emergency procedures.
Teenz Day Includes:
Safety on the Water
(1.5 hours)
This station is dedicated to captaining. Teens will get behind the wheel and receive professional instruction on how to safely operate a vessel. The boat used will fall under the appropriate size and horsepower restrictions for children of this age.
Towing Safely
(1.5 hours)
The second session for teens will put them in the driver's seat next to an expert in towed watersports. Here they will learn safety tips and helpful hints that will allow them to become skilled and safe behind the wheel while towing. In addition, they will gain a few pointers that will improve their watersports skills.
Courses take place at Buckeye Marine/Riverview beach park and will run from 8:30am until 4:30pm throughout June and July.
The price of the course is $150 all-inclusive. If you have any questions please contact Carly Poole at events@buckeyemarine.com or
